BUCKINGHAM POND PARK
Mick and me took a stroll around
the park this morning.
The North side of the park is in
fine shape. Cark and Jack doing
a good job.
The shore section South side between
Lenox and Euclid is badly in need of
work.
1. dead tree limbs still overhang the
path posing a real hazard to walkers
their pets and joggers.
2. No guard rail, or several large rocks
have been placed at the foot of Lenox
to prevent an out of control vehicle
from coming down on people/pets
on the walk below.
3. Knotweed has invaded the inward
side of the footpath, just East of
the 1 and 2 above. If not quickly
eradicated, this invasive Knotweed
will rapidly spread througout the park.
4. Three Red Dogwood bushes planted
at the base of 1 above are lanquishing.
They will survive if replanted on the
waters edge.
6. The whole length of the recently
improved footpath needs plantings
of Red Osier Dogwoods and other
plants that like wet feet, to stabilize
the shoreline reducing erosion
of the footpath and silting of the
pond.
The entire park desperately needs
a woodland mangagement plan ,
Some Maple seedlings have appeared
along the path between Lenox and
Holmes Dale. However, numerous vines
are strangling trees and need to be cut.
Coarse gravel needs to be applied to
footpath surfaces throughout the park
to reduce risks of falls in wet weather
when pathways of powdered rock
become very slippery.
